Karl James
Trustee
Karl has been a Trustee since his oldest sons left Educare in 2010. He has also occasionally worked with the children at the school in a number of projects over the years, running Listening Circles, recording interviews and making short films with them. Professionally, his early years were spent as an actor and for the last 30 years as a theatre director at the National Theatre, the Royal Court and many others. In 2002, Karl set up The Dialogue Project and is recognised as one of the UK’s leading specialists in enabling conversations when the stakes are high. His audio work includes a wide series of podcasts and programmes for Radio 4. Karl’s interest in alternatives to traditional forms of education was inspired by the late Ken Robinson. Helping Educare to develop and flourish especially in a world where children and parents are faced with mounting challenges and pressures to conform is something Karl is proud to be passionate about.
